Interactive TV opening to developers
News was recently released the Google is partnering with Intel and Sony to develop a new platform called Google TV. The basic ideas is to build a vehicle for developing content on set top boxes, presumably using the Android OS. It's very exciting news! To date has been little opportunity for developers to actually build content for TV's that can be widely disseminated. Sony's Blu-ray and BDLive provide a glimpse of what might be possible. However, given that this interactive content is currently tied to the purchase of physical media, there are some concerns about the long term viability and widespread adoption of this technology among consumers. With regard to set top television, Cable companies and broadcast networks have maintained the technology in a very closed way. If TV's can be opened up as another channel for high quality interactive media, there are undoubtedly endless new opportunities to reach audiences!
